4.Perlite uses in horticulture
1)LIGHTWEIGHT ROOFTOP GARDENING
For rooftop gardens, where weight is a factor, the advantages of Ultra-Gro / Agri-Lite Horticultural Perlite is outstanding. Wet sandy loam weighs about 120-140lbs/cu.ft. (l 920-2240 kg/ml ); perlite-peat moss mixed in equal volume will weigh about 35 lbs./ ft³ (56kg/ml)when wet. This difference can be critical where supporting structures such as roofs must be considered. In addition, with a perlite mix, the growing media can be several times as deep as, a con-ventional soil without increasing weight. Thus, the rooftop gardener can grow larger trees, and plants.
2)ROOTING CUTTINGS
A mixture of 50% Ultra-gro Horticultural Perlite and 50% peat moss is recommemded. A 100% perlite mix may be used. Place this mixture in tray or pot, insert cutting and firm the mix around the cutting. Flats or trays that penuit water drainage should be used.
3)SOIL MIXES FOR PLANTS
Ultra-gro Horticultural Perlite is the ideal mate-rial for indoor and outdoor displays in planter boxes, tubs and ornamental containers. Because the material is so light in weight, the cost of planter maintenance is greatly reduced. In addition, plant-ers may be easily moved whether on balconies, pa-tios, sundecks or sImilar locations. The perlite mix for planters, should be the same as is used with house plants.
